Job Summary
To provide sector-specific expertise and leadership in the development, implementation and execution of Wema Bank's strategic objectives for setting up the mining and solid minerals finance desk. The Unit Head, Mining and Sloid Minerals Finance shall lead, guide and drive the origination, structuring, execution and management of sector-specific transactions and relationships across the mining and solid minerals value chain while positioning Wema Bank as the preferred financial partner for mining companies, mineral processors, equipment suppliers, exporters, commodity traders, logistics providers and investors. The role is expected to deliver sustainable portfolio growth, superior asset quality, innovative financing solutions and strategic partnerships that support the Bank’s portfolio diversification and expansion into Mining and the Solid Minerals Sector.
Job Details
- Subject Matter Experts Lead: Provide subject-matter expert advice, opinions and recommendations to both internal and external customers of the Bank, on all transactions, proposals, policies and sundry matters pertaining to Mining and the Solid Minerals sector in the Bank.
- Business Development: Drive and provide specialist support, for all SBUs across the Bank, in prospecting, marketing, converting and managing banking relationships and transactions across all segments of the mining and solid minerals value-chain.
- Products Development: Lead the orchestration, development and management of innovative products and service proposition to fit retail, commercial, corporate, institutional and public sector clients, businesses and companies across the mining and solid minerals value chain.
- Credit Structuring, Appraisal and Monitoring: Guide and support unit team leads and desk officers in the appraisal and structuring of credit facilities as well as in the post-disbursement monitoring and management of credit life-cycle for all Mining and Solid Minerals transactions financed by the Bank.
- Portfolio Health and Quality Management: Ensure that the Bank’s portfolio of Mining and Solid Minerals Assets remain healthy and robust, through active collaboration of desk officers with Loan Monitoring and Review Officers as well as Loan Workout and Recovery teams, for timely prevention and/or remediation of loan delinquency.
- Strategic Alliances / Partnership Development: Develop strategic partnerships and alliances with both local and foreign development institutions, to access concessionary funding, investment and technical support for the Bank’s Mining and Solid Minerals Finance proposition.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, Banking, Accounting, Geology, Mining Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related disciplines.
- Master's degree in business administration (MBA), Finance, Economics, or related field is an added advantage.
Professional Certifications
Possession of any of the following professional qualifications will be an advantage:
- Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
- Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
- Relevant Mining, Project Finance, or Risk Management Certifications
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years' relevant banking and financial services experience.
- Minimum of 5 years in Corporate Banking, Project Finance, Structured Finance, Commodity Finance, Mining Finance, Energy Finance, Infrastructure Finance, or related sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in originating, structuring, and managing large-value transactions.
- Strong understanding of mining operations, mineral value chains, commodity markets, and investment dynamics.
- Proven track record of business development, relationship management, and portfolio growth.
